I figure people are just starting to show up for thereunion and wanted to reach out in a virtual way and say hello. I have usually arrived by this time and I hope the hospitality room is open and the good stuff flowing. Please do not forget to post the obligatory picture on the web site of the Past Great Rooster in the uniform of the day for the Friday night buffet. Old white shorts, torn tee shirt with black socks and loafers with beer in hand. I have enclosed a picture from the airport. These are not Filipinos, but Ghurkas from Nepal. We use then in convoy escort, checkpoint security and close protection. Most are retired British Army. Well got to get back to work. Please update the web site so I can follow along. Tony Levelle will be here soon. His bomb dog company Detection Support Services got an Army contract for 10 dog teams. If anyone knows any good dog handlers pass the info to me. I know he is ramping up now. James Wengenroth August -
Member, Rick Eaton died in Iraq Aug 03. With 8+ years in service with US Army in Korea, tours in Panama, and Hondoras as an Army Counterintelligence Agent. He was the U.S. Army counterintelligence analyst whose Pentagon office was struck by a hijacked jetliner on Sept. 11, 2001, has died of an illness while serving in Iraq. See: http://www.militarycity.com/valor/2131442.html and http://www.rense.com/general40/dies.htm STATEMENT FROM GOVERNOR JOHN G. ROWLAND
ON STAFF SERGEANT RICHARD S. EATON, Jr., UNITED STATES ARMY RESERVES July 16 - Korea Div, Vice Commander, Awards, Roland Grondin on DMZ business trip has adopted Korean Plt...who is his protection while he is working in DMZ near Pan Mun Jom. We now have a DMZ page due to Member Roland Grondin's good support. SSG Grondin has had repeated TDY trips to JSA in the last two months. He had a good time on this trip, and got to go to OP 239 and OP 240. A ROK Army LT gave him a tour of the Observation Post. He wished he could have taken pictures there so the US soldiers would really see how easy our soldiers have it. He will be going back up next week and take a care package to this unit, "In Front of Them All" As usual, SSG Grondin is an excellent ambassador for USA. He has a major project in the JSA and has spent a lot of time lately, just steps from North Korea. Truly, this member may be one of the first to know if we go to war with Communist North Korea.
From left to right, SFC Kim, PVT Webb, PVT Clapp, 2LT Park, and SSG Grondin. We are standing just below the watch tower, nKorea is directly behind us.
This is some of the members of the platoon that stay there at the guard post for 3 months. I don't think many US soldiers would adjust to living in this place for that amount of time. July 5 - Started a Rest In Peace page. June 14 - Texas Meeting Notes by Gunslinger YAHOO!, We had an outstanding "Meeting" 14 June 03. 24 Members turned up + their assorted wives, brats, girlfriends etc. Barbara Sue (my cousin & Abe Goldfarb's wife) put $200 in the jukebox & instructed the staff she did not want to hear anything, but down home country western & turn the volume up!! The local patrons did not quiet know what to make of our mob, but they kept sending free drinks our way. Ain't America great!!! As I scanned our merry band of minstrels could not help, but notice the experience gathered i.e. ex - SF, Company Para Military, Ravens, Air America, 1st Air Cav., Seals, Jarheads, Air Farce Special Ops. + a newly minted 2nd Lt. from the Air Farce Academy. This butter bar starts his training in Aug. He did not qualify for pilot training because of his vision, therefore he is taking another route to get into the action. I reckon he will do fine. I duly explained to him he had just enough rank to be "real" dangerous, be nice to Army Warrant Aviators once in the field & above all learn how to write a shit hot RLO Exec. Summary. Needless to say the war stories got "real" interesting by 1400 hrs., but hip waders were available for those who did not want to get to much stuff on them. Fred Platt (CP1 Cmdr.) made the trek from Houston. An added delight for me was Bulldog drove up from San Antonio for the do. He / I served together in Afghanistan last year. A good time was had by all. Abe Golfarb was the usual gracious host. (PHOTOS BELOW) I GO NOW.
